Over the last few weeks Twitter has become the latest obsession (and on an unrelated subject, yes, I am wearing my captain obvious hat today). Among the many new followers and twitterers out there, our favorite people in fashion have took to the website to give us updates on their fabulous lives. So as Twittering becomes the new black, all that’s left for us is to follow them, convince ourselves the time we’re spending on it at work is the equivalent of a quick smoke break and enjoy this new-found intimacy with celebrities. So far, this is what we’ve learned from following our favorite fashionable faces.

Happy Earth day everyone! It’s SO nice to have a whole day to reflect on how beautiful our planet is! We often take advantage of our pleasant surroundings, but today you guys should all get outside and enjoy the fresh air and the sunshine. Walk your dog a few extra times, make some lemonade, roll down the windows, eat lunch outside: all of these activities will totally brighten your mood!
It’s easy to forget the benefits of getting at LEAST 20 minutes of sunlight everyday. Vitamin D people! Don’t forget to be mindful of our resources too. Conserve and do your part to keep the air clean by taking small measures such asrecycling, walking or riding your bike, and watching your water usage.
How are all of you celebrating our beautiful planet today???
What we learned: DVF gives holidays like Earth Day off.

Day-to-day Styling: Riding a Bike

Looking good on the go is a common concern. While some spend thousands of dollars on the latest car to serve that purpose, I opt for an alternative. Sure, cars are comfortable and convenient but they require down payments (and where in the world does my money go?) and you’re cooped up inside the whole time, refraining you from showing everyone on your route your latest wardrobe additions (oh yea, that’s where!). The solution: riding a bike.
Bike riding is usually associated with sneakers and workout gear but our favorite fashionistas have led by example showing that looking good on their bikes is as simple as riding them.
Super model Elle MacPherson looks picture perfect with a practical yet pulled together look. Rolled up skinny jeans and a pair of comfortable flats make the look comfortable for pedaling while the accessories make her look as elegant as a native parisienne et son vélo. Try Women’s Lightweight Printed Scarves for a similar colorful scarf and the Oblong Studded Belt for the classic and modern double buckle belt. The ballerina inspired flats can be emulated with the Poppie Jones Harriet Square Toe Ballet Flat.
For those who are ready to take off their training wheels, a look like Agyness Deyn’s is a fit. The British beauty rode her bike in a vintage dress (try Vintage Floral Dress) and a tied button down shirt (Women’s Classic Button-Front Shirt), proving that a skirt and bike riding can go hand-in-hand. Just make sure the hemline is a little longer and the fit loose to avoid flashing passer-bys. For Deyn’s style try a metallic pair of flat sandals like the Mork Mirrored Sling.
Demi Lovato opted for a less daring but equally stylish option. By simply adding a flyaway cardigan like the Sleeveless Flyaway Vest, Open Front Slub Cardigan or the Fly Away Cardigan, a simple outfit is transformed.
Finally Pink’s boho look is perfect for those riding on boardwalks everywhere. The flowy cover-up (Smocked Ruffle Tube Dress) is comfortable and pedal-friendly while the accessories make it evident she’s on her way to a post-beach rendezvous. A hobo bag like the Maylee Leather Tote is a good option for Pink’s unfussy look.
With all those outfits, all that’s missing is a wicker bike basket and a baguette.
My only fear with riding a bike with a skirt or a dress is accidental peep shows!
I was afraid the first I did it but as long as it’s a flowy skirt you can tuck in the extra fabric in the middle for breeze-proof coverage
Jessica Alba thinking twitter is a chat room was the best!!! And yes, designers should let us into their lives by twittering their interesting day-to-day WITH PICTURES!!! no point otherwise.
Is twitter the new black or just a new accessory?
